About NYLA

New York Live Arts was founded in 2011 by a merger of the Bill T. Jones/Arnie Zane Dance Company and Dance Theater Workshop.

We respect the past and the 75 years of combined knowledge and expertise that New York Live Arts is founded on, and we are wild about the future.
— Bill T. Jones

Located in the heart of Chelsea in New York City, New York Live Arts is an internationally recognized destination for innovative movement-based artistry offering audiences access to art and artists notable for their conceptual rigor, formal experimentation and active engagement with the social, political and cultural currents of our times. At the center of this identity is Bill T. Jones, Executive Artistic Director, a world-renowned choreographer, dancer, theater director and writer.

We commission, produce and present performances in our 20,000 square foot home, which includes a 184-seat theater and two 1,200 square foot studios that can be combined into one large studio. New York Live Arts serves as home base for the Bill T. Jones/Arnie Zane Dance Company, provides an extensive range of participatory programs for adults and young people and supports the continuing professional development of artists. Our influence extends beyond NYC through our international cultural exchange program that currently places artists in Eastern Europe, the Middle East and Africa.

About Bill T. Jones/Arnie Zane Dance Company

Now in its 30th year, the Bill T. Jones/Arnie Zane Dance Company was born out of an 11-year collaboration between Bill T. Jones and Arnie Zane (1948–1988). During this time, they redefined the duet form and foreshadowed issues of identity, form and social commentary that would change the face of American dance. The Company has performed worldwide in over 200 cities in 40 countries on every major continent and is recognized as one of the most innovative and powerful forces in the dance-theater world. Touring projects for the 2013-2014 season include major new work, repertory classics, minimal duets and Bill T. Jones's return to the stage.

About Dance Theater Workshop
Founded as an artist collective by Art Bauman, Jeff Duncan and Jack Moore in 1965 Dance Theater Workshop was a stalwart supporter of over 2,500 artists and companies. Under the artistic and executive leadership of David R. White (from 1975 - 2003), Dance Theater Workshop was one of the few organizations in New York that provided direct support to artists through commissions and performance fees, international research and travel subsidies, rehearsal space and rental subsidies and touring support. With a record of over 45 years of innovation and service, Dance Theater Workshop furthered the development of dance and performance through original programming that addressed the ever-shifting needs of artists and audience members alike.
