Allison Jones Dance

Formed in 2010, Allison Jones Dance presents contemporary, conceptual dance works in the New York Metro area and beyond, with a rotating group of stellar freelance contemporary artists. Through the power of gesture, playful improvisation, interdisciplinary collaboration and harnessing of Spirit, Allison Jones Dance seeks to ask eternally human questions, creatively explore their meaning, and bring audience and performers together to dig for their own answers.

Raised in the progressive, Eucalyptus-scented rock 'n' roll community of Laurel Canyon, Los Angeles, to artist parents, Allison Jones has always had Nature on her mind, Music in her heart and Dance to express it through. After graduating from the Los Angeles County High School for the Arts where she received the B.C. McCabe Award for Artistic and Academic Achievement, Allison pursued her B.F.A. degree from the Conservatory of Dance at Purchase College, SUNY, graduating Cum Laude in 2008 with a Certificate in Arts Management. Trained in Modern Composition under the renowned Kazuko Hirabayashi, Allison began presenting her work while still an undergraduate, at Dance Theater Workshop's College Partnership Program and the American Dance Guild Festival. In 2010 Allison was generously invited by Aly Rose (Professor, NYU) to collaborate on a piece for the 2010 Shanghai Expo. INK, the resulting work, was the first-ever modern dance collaboration between Chinese and Americans to be presented on a major Chinese stage. Allison Jones Dance has continued to present solo, group and interdisciplinary works at venues/festivals such as Symphony Space, Movement Research at the Judson Church, Dixon Place, Ailey Citigroup Theater (Dance Gallery Festival), Triskelion Arts, World Financial Center Winter Garden, WAVE RISING SERIES (as an invited guest company, 2011), WestFest at the Cunningham Theater (collaboration with Loni Landon & Yin Yue), House of Yes (Vis-à-Vis Project) and many others. Allison is greatly influenced by her post-collegiate independent study in Tel Aviv, Israel, as well as the choreographers she has had the pleasure of working with professionally (Andrea Miller, Barak Marshall, Lauri Stallings, Benjamin Levy, Jamey Hampton and others).

In the past year Allison Jones Dance has focused on interdisciplinary work with A // V club (Sam Hart & Sam Silver), for the creation of ab initio, an ongoing experimental live multimedia collaboration featuring 3-4 female dancers, vivid projections, hanging paper installation, and a live-mixed soundscore. The company has also focused on development of HYPOMANIAC!, a deep and raw exploration of manic and depressive cycles in human biorhythms, that takes the shape of both a solo and group work. Currently, Allison Jones Dance is working on a new, evening length immersive installation performance slated for October 2013, tentatively titled Duende / There's A Fire Burning Somewhere.

In 2011 Allison became a Founding Choreographer at the CURRENT SESSIONS, a new contemporary dance series held at the wild project theater in the East Village, spearheaded by Alexis Convento. Allison has since become Co-Creative Director at the SESSIONS, helping to produce two performance series per year, push the Company's Mission forward, and live her dream of bridging the gap between “emerging” and “established” artists while creating space for Contemporary Dance to thrive in New York City.

When not working with Allison Jones Dance and the CURRENT SESSIONS, Allison performs as a Dancer with the Metropolitan Opera Ballet (Les Contes d'Hoffman, Don Giovanni & Rigoletto), composes music (guitar, piano and voice), and independently studies various mystical pursuits including Astrology and Reiki Healing.
