Biography

Rosane Chamecki and Andrea Lerner, aka chameckilerner, choreographers and filmmakers

During their 15 year collaboration between 1992 and 2007, Rosane Chamecki and Andrea Lerner created more than 10 evening length dances that toured internationally to much critical acclaim.

In 2007, they premiered EXIT at The Kitchen in New York City. EXIT was a good-bye to their dance career and marked the beginning of their filmmaking collaboration. In 2008, the two were awarded the prestigious Guggenheim Fellowship to support translating their unique visual, movement poetry from stage to film.

Together with Minneapolis based filmmaker Phil Harder, chameckilerner's film career started with the production of the award-winning short FLYING LESSON.

In 2008, FLYING LESSON premiered at the 36th Dance on Camera Festival at Lincoln Center, New York and won the Jury Award. The summer of 2008 the short was awarded Best Experimental Film Award at the Brooklyn International Film Festival and was broadcast on Channel 13's acclaimed REEL NEW YORK series. It also aired on Propeller TV in the UK, SBS in Australia and Cultura TV in the Netherlands. The film continues to play the international film festival circuit and has been sold to art collectors through Roebling Hall Gallery, NY. In 2009, FLYING LESSON received an Honorable Mention in the Experimental Short Film category at the San Joaquin International Film Festival, was part of ROOS ARTS – MEET & CAKE Group show in Rosendale, NY, DISCOVER US! – CARNIVAL WITHIN – AN EXHIBITION MADE IN AMERICA, in Berlin, Germany and THE INVISIBLE DOG art show curated by NO LONGER EMPTY in Brooklyn, NY. The summer of 2011, the film will be part of Outdoor Excursion, a group exhibit, at BCA, Burlington, Vermont curated by Gergory Volk.

Completed are two more short films: CONVERSATION WITH BOXING GLOVES BETWEEN CHAMECKI AND LERNER, commissioned by PERFORMA 09 and the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art as part of the FUTURIST LIFE REDUX film project. The short screened at the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art (SFMOMA) premiered in NY at Anthology Film Archives as part of PERFORMA 09 in 2009.

JACKIE & JUDY, a 4 min. black and white ode to Norman McLaren's PAS DE DEUX, premiered at the 38th DANCE ON CAMERA FESTIVAL in 2010 and was awarded a PEARL at the Pool 2010 Festival in Berlin, Germany.

Both films are currently airing on Ikono Menasa TV across the Middle East.  

The team of Rosane Chamecki, Andrea Lerner and Phil Harder together with producer Tanja Meding filmed two shorts titled THE LINE and THE COLLECTION during a residency at the WATERMILL CENTER, Robert Wilson's international, multi-disciplinary center for studies in the arts and humanities in Watermill, New York.

Phil Harder, filmmaker

Philip Harder has directed more than 200 music videos, numerous short films, and commercial projects for clients such as iPod, Sprint, The Gap, Target, and Hewlett Packard. His credits include music videos for PRINCE, FOO FIGHTERS, INCUBUS, ROB THOMAS, HILARY DUFF, LOW, PULP, BARENAKED LADIES, LIZ PHAIR and YELLOWCARD, all of which feature Harder's unique visual experimentation. Harder has earned several top distinctions including an MVPA award for Best Alternative Video, MTV Awards video nomination, an AICP Video, SXSW short film award, and a nomination for MVPA's Director of the Year. In 1996 Phil worked with chameckilerner creating films for their dance performance PLEASE DON'T LEAVE ME. In 2007, they met again to create FLYING LESSON and have collaborated on four more short films since then.
