ALISON COOK-BEATTY DANCE

ALISON COOK-BEATTY (Founder, Artistic Director, and serving Executive Director of Alison Cook Beatty Dance) received her BFA from the Boston Conservatory of Music at Berklee, receiving the Ruth Sandholm Ambrose Scholarship Award with high honors. She moved to New York City and danced with the Paul Taylor Dance Company and Taylor 2. In 2012, Ms. Cook Beatty founded Alison Cook Beatty Dance, a classically-based modern dance company whose mission is to make dance accessible and emotionally engaging for all. She has been commissioned by companies and institutions such as Ballet Next, Columbia Ballet Collaborative, Carolina Ballet Theater, The Joffrey Ballet School, The Boston Conservatory of Music at Berklee, Marymount Manhattan College, NYSSSA, Steffi Nossen School of Dance, and The Ailey School. She was awarded the 2013 sjDANCEco Award for Artistic Merit, and in 2017 participated as an emerging choreographer in Doug Varone’s DEVICES Mentorship Program. Under her direction, the Company has grown to a reputable nonprofit with local impact and international esteem. Her Covid-era works have received media attention for their innovative nature, including a WABC/TaxiTV story about the socially-distant work “Central Park Field #4”. During Covid, ACBD was also the recipient of grant awards from Dance/NYC’s Coronavirus Dance Relief Fund, the New York City Department of Cultural Affairs, and the New York State Council on the Arts.
