ArtéMakar Productions


Arthur Makaryan is a theatre and opera director and producer (associate member of SDC and SAG-AFTRA signatory). He is also the founding artistic director of ArtéMakar Productions and a professor in Performing Arts at Ohio-Wesleyan University’s NY Arts Program. He was the recipient of the 2017-18 Opera Directing Fellowship contract at the Juilliard School and holds masters’ degrees in directing from Columbia University (under the tutelage of Anne Bogart) and La Sorbonne Paris III. As for practice and additional training, he has been trained at the Grotowski Institute in Poland, Suzuki Company of Toga in Japan and Stella Polaris Theatre in Norway. 

His most recent credits include The O’Leary Theory online real-time interactive show, the Oedipus in the District contemporary opera at the Armenian National Opera, Broken April at LenFest Center for Arts, the Simulacrum multimedia opera at 3LD Art and Tech Center, Hamlet Machine that toured in Armenia, Russia, Lithuania, Moldova, France and USA (off-Broadway) and Black Garden that had its premiere in Paris at Théâtre de l’Opprimé.

He has assisted Ivo van Hove at Toneelgroep Amsterdam; Stephen Wadsworth at Metropolitan Opera and Peter Jay Sharp Theatre; Darren Katz, the resident director for The Lion King musical on Broadway; and Sybille Wilson at Royal Parc Theater in Brussels.
