Dardo Galletto Dance

Dardo Galletto Dance

“Dardo Galletto Dance is a New York-based company led by choreographer and director Dardo Galletto. Dardo fuses elements of Argentine tango, classical ballet and contemporary dance to capture an amalgam of European and Latin elements that is unique to Argentine culture.”

Dardo Galletto, native from Cordoba, is a uniquely versatile dance artist fluent in classical ballet, contemporary dance, and Argentine tango. He trained at the Teatro San Martin and danced withJulio Bocca’s Ballet Argentino, Ballet Argentino de la Plata and New York-based Nai Ni Chen Dance. In New York City he operates a tango studio named Dardo Galletto Studios. Galletto believes that when the technical range and awareness found in ballet and contemporary dance meets the emotional and expressive qualities of folkloric tango, the result is both sophisticated and deeply human. Beginning in 2003, Galletto brought his choreographic vision to life by forming the New Generation Dance Company. New Generation performed at such prestigious venues as Jacob’s Pillow Dance Festival and Symphony Space and showcased some of the world’s leading tango stars, including Gabriel Misse, Guillermina Quiroga and Carlos Copello, as well as members of American Ballet Theater and New Jersey Ballet.

Now, in 2016, Galletto establishes Dardo Galletto Dance, a new company featuring both local and international artists with whom he has worked extensively for years. Works include Piazzolla Vivaldi, which contrasts the Argentine and Italian interpretations of The Four Seasons, a collection of short works that are built upon the traditional tango embrace, and Black and White Tango, which explores relationships between dualities. Dardo and his company performs both locally and internationally.

His works have been lauded as sophisticated and deeply human because he draws both from the expressive nature of folkloric tango and from the technical precision of ballet and contemporary dance. The works have been performed at such prestigious venues as Jacob’s Pillow and Symphony Space and have showcased some the world’s foremost tango and ballet dancers.
