Deborah Hay/Eric Geiger, Jess Humphrey, and Leslie Seiters

Deborah Hay toured with the Cunningham Dance Company, was a member of the Judson Dance Theater, and by 1967, had achieved prominent status as a young choreographer. Hay’s career has spanned over fifty years and included large-scale projects involving untrained dancers, deep reflection upon how dance is transmitted and presented (Circle Dances, Vermont), 4-month large group workshops that culminated in public performances (Austin, Texas), and 14 annual Solo Performance Commissioning Projects from 1998-2012 during which time she redefined the highly inimitable choreographic method of her solos in collaboration with highly trained dancers (O, O, If I Sing To You, Bessie award-winning The Match, among others). Awards and recognitions include a 2012 Doris Duke Artist Award and the title of Chevalier de L’ordre des Arts et des Lettres given by France’s Minister of Culture and Communication. She has written four books documenting her dances and continues to choreograph new dances.
