History

Energy and Passion Inspiring Collaborative Motion Dance Company (EPIC Motion) was officially formed in January of 2009 after branching off from New York University’s International Filipino Association Dance Team. For five seasons EPIC strove to bring creativity to and break boundaries of the competitive East Coast dance world, and won numerous awards including 1st place at PRIDE 3 in 2010, 3rd place at WOD New York in 2011, and 1st place at Defining Rhythm in 2011.

In 2013, EPIC ceased competing to focus on presenting meaningful work without restriction. Since then, EPIC has performed at events as an exhibition group. In the fall of 2014, EPIC conceived of and hosted The DROP, a sold out showcase to bridge together NY/NJ-based dance artists of different styles and backgrounds.

EPIC began holding spring showcases in 2011 to present its dancers’ work to friends and family who are unable to attend performances outside of New York City. This eventually developed into thematic shows, beginning with Reflections in 2013, followed by 24 in 2014, Epikos in 2015, and The Electric Lady in 2016. These shows have historically always sold out and have in some instances drawn international audiences including celebrities such as Ariana Grande.

Main Season

The EPIC Motion season takes place from September to May. The season is divided into a Fall Session (September to December) and a Spring Session (January to May). The fall session focuses on developing and performing a company set for exhibition, preparing ourselves for the spring session, and training in different styles and technique. The spring session focuses on developing and performing the annual EPIC Motion Dance Company production.
