About The Artistic Director

Sarah Mettin graduated cum laude from SUNY Purchase’s Dance Conservatory in 2011, with additional studies abroad in Rotterdam, Netherlands at Codarts (Rotterdamse Dans Academie). Mettin is passionately involved in every aspect of dance, working as a dancer, teacher, choreographer and artistic director. She had the opportunity to perform in works by many choreographers including Twyla Tharp, Bill T. Jones, Merce Cunningham, Jose Limon, Kate Weare, Takehiro Ueyama, Cat Cogliandro, Kanji Segawa, Jessica Lang, Jonathan Royse Windham, Arantxa Sagardoy, and other freelance artists. Mettin’s profound interest in choreography led her to create her first full-length work, Talk of Interference, in the Netherlands in 2009 that triggered Mettin’s inspiration to continue creation. Mettin Movement was founded in 2011 and is fiscally sponsored by New York Live Arts.  Mettin Movement has performed in numerous festivals and was invited to teach master classes at Peridance Capezio Center (‘12, ’13, '14) in New York City and Sam Houston State University in Texas. Mettin was commissioned as the winning choreographer to collaborate with composer/pianist Jonathan Howard Katz, Mettin Movement and Periapsis Music and Dance for performances in 2013. Mettin created a work on guest artist Samantha Figgins (Complexions Contemporary Ballet) and also returned to her alma mater to set a senior repertory solo- a strong accomplishment and testimony to her choreographic abilities from the professors at SUNY Purchase. The solo, Excerpts from In a Roofless Room, performed in Purchase Dance Company's Spring Concert (Purchase Performing Arts Center/New York Live Arts). Mettin will be setting a new work on Purchase Dance Company for 2014-2015 as well as another senior repertory solo. Mettin is currently teaching at The University of Pennsylvania, Edge Dance Company, and is the resident choreographer/ballet mistress at Metropolitan Ballet Company, which is noted as one of the top seven ballet academies in the United States by Pointe Magazine. Her work for Metropolitan Ballet Company received the Outstanding Choreographer Award from Youth America Grand Prix and Regional Dance America Festival's Monticello Award- a full scholarship to study under Janis Brenner (The Juilliard School) at the National Choreography Conference. Mettin has set 4 original works as well as staged full-length works choreographed by Kanji Segawa (Alvin Ailey) and Tommie Waheed Evans (Philadanco). Mettin thanks her loved ones for all the honesty, encouragement, contribution and love.
