Vanessa Anspaugh / Jen Rosenblit

Biographies

Vanessa Anspaugh is a choreographer and performer originally from Los Angeles, CA. Her own dance and video work has been performed at venues such as Food For Thought at Danspace Project/ St.Marks Church, Movement Research Festival, Gilded Pony Performance Festival, AUNTS, and as an artist in residence at Studio 303 in Montreal QC, where she and long time collaborator Aretha Aoki premiered their first evening length work entitled, In this place, on our hands. She was also a collaborator on the Swimming Cities of Switchback Sea project (a month long floating performance on homemade “junk rafts” down the Hudson River, culminating at Deitch Projects) with Installation Artist Swoon, and Playwright Lisa D’Amor. This past fall and winter she was a collaborating performer in Taylor Mac’s Obie Award Winning play, The Lily’s Revenge. Most recently she showed her latest piece We Are Weather at Dance Theater Workshop, in their Fresh Tracks series for Emerging Artists. Currently she is a BAX Space Grant recipient and will be showing a work in progress there December 3rd &4th of 2010. She is also a new member of the movement collective MGM Grand (aka Modern Garage Movement) with collaborators, Biba Bell and Jmy Leary with whom she will be in performing and work-shopping with this Summer on their West Coast tour.

She has enjoyed working with, learning from and performing for, Aretha Aoki, Jillian Peña, Annie Sailor, Faye Driscoll, Elizabeth Ward, Jen Rozenblit, Jules Skloot, Taylor Mac among others. Anspaugh attended San Francisco Art Institute and Instito Allende, In San Milguel de Allende, Mexico where she studied painting and photography. She holds a BA in Still and Moving Arts from Antioch College and an MFA in Choreography and Performance from Smith College in Northampton, MA, where she was awarded a full teaching fellowship.

Jen Rosenblit formed the BottomHeavies in 2005 to encompass ideas, research, dance-making and to locate a space in this world. In 2011 this name felt like a memory of wanting and so it was let go. Rosenblit has worked along side a constant negotiation of friendship, expectation and collaboration with Addys Gonzalez since 2002 while studying at Hampshire College. Her work has taken her to Denmark, Moscow and Italy. She has taught and Bowdoin College, Hollins and through CLASSCLASSCLASS in new york city. Her recent works include “Everlast and So Badly”(Fresh Tracks 09), “When Them”(Platform 2010 Back to New York City), and “Salivate if you could”(DTW Studio Series 2010-11) are all part of her desire to be with audience.
