This season’s Fresh Tracks artists present their new work in a shared evening in the theater. Fresh Tracks Residency & Performance program is a season-long residency for emerging movement-based artists in
support of new work creation and professional development. This season marks the 59th year of Fresh Tracks, which was a signature program of Dance Theater Workshop to bring new choreographic artistry to the forefront.

Julia Antinozzi’s work revises the typical structures and characters of romantic, plot-de-emphasized ballets, and practices a casual technique integrating form, pantomime gesture, and mellow bravura. THIRD VARIATION further manipulates the circumstance to reconsider presentation and the ephemeral doppelganger, and will be an Epilogue to Julia Antinozzi’s THE SUITE, which premieres this April. Choreographed by Antinozzi, the work features performances by Sienna Blaw, Dasol Kim, Paulina Meneses, Kelsey Saulnier, an original score by Ryan Wolfe, and costumes and styling by Sonya Gadet-Molansky.

Vinson Fraley’s Alluvium is a work that was initially conceived as a part of “Planting Connections” curated by Kyle Abraham at Lincoln Center. This iteration of the piece delves into the poetics of atmospheric and synthetic forces that act as a resistance to rest. The work is a ritual that contemplates creation in the face of grief and inevitable collapse. It is performed by Vinson Fraley who employs a synthesis of movement forms and sonic components to suggest a sense of reorientation to time and space.

Influenced by the randomness and unpredictability of scrolling, Fantasy Punctured by Liony Garcia interprets the experience of swiping as a phy-gital choreographic practice. It uses video editing tools as a method to restructure a variety of bite-sized movement fragments taken from filmed improvisations. The clips are rearranged into four serene yet slightly unsettled dance solos, creating a jumbled emotional landscape where you can simultaneously cherish your ability to scroll through a world of infinite content on Instagram while fretting over the app’s ability to consume your time, attention and personal sense of agency. The work is created in collaboration with Francesca Dominguez, Jailyn Phillips-Wiley, Stella Jacobs and Joey Weaver.

Symara Sarai’s newest piece explores the complexities of black queer femininity and the magic of its vulnerability. Batty Juice is a continuation of Symara’s investigations into the nexus of parallels between black queer imagination and anarchy. Turning the space into a utopia of the performers’ choosings, the piece is an invitation into a practice of authentic autonomy. The artists transform perceptions of failure into successes and invite in real time negotiations as a way to engage with infinite possibilities. These ideas are visually and sonically expressed through collaboration with performers Mikaila Ware and Kentoria Earle, set designer Xinan Helen Ran, and sound designer CHIMI.

Fresh Tracks is supported in part by Jerome Foundation and Partners for New Performance.
