David Gordon / Pick Up Performance Company
David Gordon has been constructing dance and theater events for the Pick Up Performance Co(s) for 30-some very odd years.
Gordon is a current member of the Actors Studio and Center for Creative Research. He was previously the panel chair of the NEA Dance Program. He was a founding artist of Grand Union/Judson Church Performances and previously performed with the Yvonne Rainer Co. and James Waring Co.
David Gordon’s commissions for directing and/or choreographing include Actors Studio, American Ballet Theatre, American Conservatory Theater, American Repertory Theater, Barbican (London), BBC Channel 4 (UK), British Dance Umbrella, Brooklyn Academy of Music, Dance Theatre of Harlem, Dance Theater Workshop, Danspace, Guthrie Theater, Joyce Theater, The Kitchen, KTCA Alive TV, Mark Taper Forum, New York Theatre Workshop, On the Boards (Seattle), PBS Great Performances, Serious Fun! at Lincoln Center, Spoleto USA, Theatre for a New Audience, Walker Art Center, and White Oak Dance Project. His awards include two Obies, three Bessies, two Dramalogues, two Guggenheims, two Pew Charitable Trust Grants (in both Theater and Dance), and three National Endowment for the Arts’ American Masterpiece grants.
