Origins is a mixed-bill program featuring four bold new contemporary ballet works choreographed by Artistic Director Minnie Lane and Guest Choreographer Adriana Pierce. These works reflect Renversons’ commitment to honoring the ballet form while actively expanding its possibilities through conceptual storytelling and non-traditional partnering.

The program opens with Recreation, choreographed by Minnie Lane. Drawing inspiration from forms of leisure ranging from social dancing to sport, the work explores how women find community and joy outside the structures of capitalism. Performed in sneakers, the work blends classical vocabulary with buoyant, folk-inflected music, inviting audiences into ballet through a sense of play and rhythmic vitality. The Gallery, also by Lane, imagines a group of living artworks placed in conversation with one another.

Kiss the Rhythm by guest choreographer Adriana Pierce is a quartet set to music by the New York–based duo big dog little dog. The work examines repetition and ritual as pathways to grounding and self-soothing, using cyclical movement structures to explore care, endurance, and collective rhythm.

The evening culminates in Bury Your Gaze, a queer origin story of the Greek Muses. Set to music by composer Jean-Michel Blais, this 20-minute narrative ballet explores the Muses’ interiority, offering a new perspective on why they choose to create through others.

With imaginative costume designs by Lauren Carmen and attentive lighting design by Emily Clarkson, Origins commences Renversons’s presence as a ballet company working to interrogate, disrupt, and reinvent ballet’s place in our contemporary, diverse world.
