Studio Series: Ani Taj and The Dance Cartel

Known for delivering “boundary-stretching…haute-performance theory with a house party vibe” (The New York Times) Ani Taj and The Dance Cartel focus on ways they can break the societal expectation of a “dance performance” and bring movement to a broad and diverse audience. For Studio Series, they will present an in-progress showing of their newest project, Wet Clutch. Inspired by Hollywood cinema’s female heroes from the past 50 years, Wet Clutch explores portable material that can be used in outdoor spaces. The Cartel’s showing at Live Arts marks the first step in the process of what will ultimately become an explosive public dance experience.

In-process talks moderated by Paul Langland.

Support for the Studio Series is provided, in part, by the National Endowment for the Arts, the New York City Department of Cultural Affairs, and the Foundation for Contemporary Arts.
