Making its premiere at New York Live Arts, DNA honors who came before us as a stepping stone to see what is next. Much like it does in science, DNA is the blueprint for movement and ticks, ultimately showing us who we are.
For this production, there is a discounted admission price for People of Color (POC). We encourage, but by no means require, People of Color to select that price. We also encourage our non-POC friends and allies to pay the standard general admission to participate in this gesture of awareness that contributes to an effort in offsetting the cost of subsidized tickets for POC and those that are marginalized. Director McKersin notes, “The arts should not be a luxury for the elite and upper class.”

Lakai Dance Theatre draws from jazz, hip-hop, and Afro-Diasporic styles while incorporating powerful spoken word and live music to paint complex stories that reflect the realities of inner-city existence right down to the beauty of the people. The company makes work that uses the idea of home to trace the ripple effects not only of harm, but also of healing and joy through families and neighborhoods.
