kNoname Artist

Founded in Berlin in 2015 and now based in New York City, kNoname Artist is a contemporary dance collective created by choreographer Roderick George. The company uses movement as a form of protest, healing, and communal reflection—engaging urgent sociopolitical realities while cultivating spaces of care, joy, and shared authorship. Rooted in George’s lived experience, kNoname Artist confronts themes of colorism, class, systemic inequity, and historical erasure, while affirming the power of collective resilience and imagination. The company operates through a project-based model that prioritizes collaboration over hierarchy, ensuring that every contributor is recognized as an essential voice within the work. kNoname Artist has been presented internationally at leading institutions and festivals including Jacob’s Pillow, New York City Center (Fall for Dance), New York Live Arts, Suzanne Dellal, Zurich Tanzhaus, Sophiensæle Festspiele, Pavilion Noir | Ballet Preljocaj, Kaatsbaan Cultural Park, Pocantico Art Center, HarlemStage, and Fall for Dance North / NIGHTSHIFT, among others. An earlier iteration of The Grave’s Tears received the inaugural Jacob’s Pillow Men Dancers Award.
