Maxi Hawkeye Canion
Maxi Hawkeye Canion (they/she) is a durational performance and movement artist, Improviser and Director known for their versatility and collaboration. They explore the intricacies of identity, failure, and intimacy as they intersect with the collective human experience. In their creative process, Maxi materializes sensory experiences, guiding viewers to the intersection where the hyper-surreal and ordinary converge.
Maxi imbues sculptural garments, embodies unfiltered movement, shapes character design, and constructs immersive installations within improvisational frameworks. These provide performers the freedom to explore with spontaneity, inviting genuine wonder. Maxi has recently held residencies at Art Omi, MOtiVE Brooklyn, Otion Front Studio, New Dance Alliance, Gibney, and the GALLIM Moving Artist Residency, nurturing ‘willing to eat stars,’ an evening-length work that demonstrates their commitment to pushing the boundaries of creativity.
Inspired by their eclectic background and collaborations with talents like Miles Greenberg, Monica Mirabile, Richard Kennedy, Young Boy Dancing Group, Sidra Bell, and more, Maxi aims to craft narratives that are authentically original.
