Maxi Hawkeye Canion
Maxi Hawkeye Canion (they/she) is a Brooklyn-based performance artist. Through their lens as a Black Queer person, their interests lie in non-linear and autobiographical narratives that examine the nuances of intimacy, failure, identity, ephemera, and the grotesque. Their improvisational works exist within low-stakes/high integrity containers, centering intricate personas that play as the metaphorical embodiment of socio-political stances and present themselves temporally through drag. Further supporting their visions, they rely on performative iterations as a form of research. Aesthetically, they find their work referencing nostalgic anime, low poly and immersive gaming, youtube video essays, the Black avant garde, tumblr era meme text, punk, deconstructed fashion, and ambient horror.
