Azul Dance Theatre / Yuki Hasegawa

A native of Japan, Yuki Hasegawa has had her choreography presented since 2002 at venues including, Salvatore Capezio Theater, DiCapo Opera Theater, United Nations Auditorium, Frederick Loewe Theater, John Ryan Theater, Merce Cunningham Studio, Dance Space Center, and Theater for the New City. She founded Azul Dance Theatre/ Yuki Hasegawa in 2004. The company repertories were presented at various dance events in NY, such as, American Dance Guild Festival at 92nd Street Y, Peridance Faculty Showcase, Dumbo Dance Festival, Cool NY Dance Festival, Wave Rising Series, and Green Space Blooms.

She is currently a faculty member of Peridance Capezio Center in New York. Her research paper, “Traditional Japanese dance—movement and choreography” was published in DVD format for the 20th World Congress of Dance Research in 2006. She had taught creative dance for the children at the United Nations from 2003 to 2005. She was invited to the 16th International Congress on Dance Research (Greece) for lecture and demonstration of traditional Japanese dance in 2002.

As a performer, she appeared in musicals (Japanese productions) such as Oliver, Golden Boy, SANADA, Rosanjin, No, No, Nanette, and Little House on the Prairie, as well as in Japanese TV dramas and commercial films in Tokyo, Japan. Yuki holds her MA in Dance and Dance Education from New York University, and her BA (major in psychology) from Kobe College in Japan.
