Carla Peterson
Carla Peterson (Artistic Director, New York Live Arts) has provided overall direction for the artistic mission of Dance Theater Workshop since October 2006 and continues as Artistic Director of New York Live Arts, a new model of artist-led, producing/presenting/touring arts organization unique in the United States that was formed between a merger of the Bill T. Jones/Arnie Zane Dance Company and Dance Theater Workshop in 2010. From 2002 to 2006, she held the position of Executive Director of Movement Research, an internationally recognized dance laboratory. From 1988 to 1993, she was the Assistant Performing Arts Director at the Wexner Center for the Arts in Columbus, Ohio. She has also held numerous positions in freelance arts consulting, fundraising and management working with artists such as Tere O’Connor, Jennifer Monson, Ann Carlson, Chamecki/Lerner, Susan Rethorst, and others. She continues to serve on panels, most recently, as advisor for the New England Foundation for the Art’s National Dance Project, the Princess Grace Awards, the Foundation for Contemporary Arts Fellowship Grants to Individuals, the Pew Fellowships in the Arts’ Discipline-Specific and Final Interdisciplinary Panels, and The Maggie Allesee National Center for Choreography’s Choreographic Fellowships panel. She has also worked as a writer, project manager, project development advisor, and fundraiser for independent artists and arts organizations, such as the Doris Duke Charitable Foundation, Surdna Foundation, Association for Performing Arts Presenters, and the National Performance Network. From 1993 to 1996, she served as both Managing Director of National Performance Network and Director of The Suitcase Fund, an international artist exchange program at Dance Theater Workshop. She serves on the boards of Movement Research and SNAAP (Strategic National Arts Alumni Project). She holds an MFA from The Ohio State University and a BS from University of Illinois.
