Fang-Yi Sheu & Artists was founded by the internationally renowned Taiwanese dance artist Fang-Yi Sheu to create a platform for the exchange of ideas with artists from a global community, and to connect young Taiwanese artists with the rest of the world. Ms. Sheu is a native of Taiwan and a has been praised by the media as “the finest present-day embodiment of Martha Graham's technique and tradition.” Ms. Sheu has received numerous awards recognizing her extraordinary career and was the first Asian artist in residence at the Baryshnikov Arts Center.
The Huang Yi Studio was founded in 2010 to seek a great diversity in the development of art. The Studio aims to expand the possibility and territory of dance, and to blend the essence of dance with other artistic elements to create new potentialities of performing and visual arts. Mr. Huang is widely recognized for incorporating multi-layered images and delicate body movement. In 2011, he was selected as one of “25 to Watch” by Dance Magazine.
Shu-Yi & Dancers, established by Chou Shu-Yi in 2011, was created to play a pivotal role in Taiwan’s dance and culture landscape. It aspires to be a theater of experimentation for all dancers and artists who wish to make a breakthrough, as well as a forum that allows exploration, learning, and mastery. Mr. Chou’s works mainly focus on the physical movement of a dancing body, while he continually challenges artistic conventions to explore a cross-genre performance style. Chou Shu-Yi has won several performing arts awards, including the first Sadlers Wells Global Dance Contest in 2009.
Cheng Tsung-Lung was a member of Henry Yu Dance Group and Taipei City Ballet before being invited by Taipei National University of the Arts, Horse, and Zuo-Zu-Ting Dance Group to work as a choreographer. In 2002, Cheng joined Cloud Gate to participate in several international tours, and then he became the resident guest choreographer for Cloud Gate 2. Subsequently, his pieces were shown in Brisbane, New York, London, Ludwigshafen, and Taipei. Mr. Cheng was recently appointed assistant artistic director of Cloud Gate 2.
