Garrett Allen
Garrett Allen is a performance based artist and director of live work. Their practice employs liveness, embodied inquiry, and conceptual experimentation to produce impermanent, excavating, and synergistic experiences. They engage with performance, theater, installation, video, drawing, movement, and sound: though they are anti-disciplinary in ethos and approach. Their work explores and unfolds beauties and brutalities of being. They test toward, through, and into freedom and liberation in all its potentials and possibilities.
From 2020-2024, they were a co-founding leader of LEGACY, a production collective for and by Black, queer and trans artists. They were a 2021 inaugural New York Stage and Film Nexus Initiative recipient and a 2026 Lower Manhattan Cultural Council Art Center Resident. They received a M.F.A. in Directing from the School of Drama at Yale University.
