MorDance

MorDance is a trailblazing contemporary ballet company dedicated to creating original works that challenge the conventions of classical ballet while addressing pressing social, environmental, and civic themes. Founded in 2014 by Artistic Director Morgan McEwen, MorDance uses ballet as a platform for social impact, employing art as a tool for education, inspiration, and empathy. Since relocating to Westchester County in 2024, the company has expanded its reach through compelling performances, educational initiatives, and strategic partnerships across the region.

Critics have lauded MorDance for its innovative approach and artistic excellence. Jerry Hochman of CriticalDance wrote that the company’s 2024 New York season “was, to put it mildly, a knockout.” Siobhan Burke of The New York Times noted that Artistic Director Morgan McEwen is “equipped with essential tools: an eye for shaping the arc of a dance as carefully as the transitions and details within it,” acknowledging the company’s ambition and commitment to original choreography in a highly competitive dance landscape.

MorDance is committed to making ballet accessible and relevant to diverse audiences. The company offers free after-school programs, annual student matinees, and community workshops, reaching hundreds of underserved youth each year. As noted in The Dance Enthusiast, MorDance’s outreach has drawn praise from local leaders, including Yonkers’ 1st District Council member Deanna Renee Robinson, who shared, “We did not have access to ballet, to see it or to try it!”

With a steadfast dedication to equity, accessibility, and artistic innovation, MorDance continues to redefine ballet for the contemporary era, fostering meaningful connections and inspiring audiences through the transformative power of dance.
