Winter Family

Winter Family (Israël-France) is a duo of experimental music composed by Ruth Rosenthal and Xavier Klaine currently based between Tel Aviv, Paris and New York City. Since they met in 2004 they have performed in London, Paris, Lausanne, NYC, Milan, Brussels, Jerusalem, Naples, Lyon, Tel Aviv and Gent, most often as a duo (vocals / piano, harmonium, celesta) but are sometimes accompanied by other musicians such as Norsola Johnson (Godspeed you ! Black Emperor), Olivier Robert, Ben McConnell (Au revoir Simone, Rain Machine) and Sylvain Favre. They have also collaborated with numerous artists including Maïder Fortune, Paco Decina, Sebastien Betbeder, Yael Perlman Olivier Mirguet and Arthur Nauzyciel, composing original music for films, dance pieces and theatre. In 2007, their eponymous album was released by the label Subrosa records and was hailed by critics in Europe and the United States, it was followed by a LP version Where Did You go my boy? in 2008 (Marienbad / Subrosa).



Klaine and Rosenthal, laureates of the Villa Médici hors les murs scholarship offered by the French Minister of Cultural Affairs (French Institute), resided NYC in 2010 and 2011 where they began new research inspired by the concepts “Iconographic and circulation”, of the geopolitician Jean Gottman.

Currently they are associated artists in Centquatre in Paris, creating a new performance, touring Europe and Asia and recording their third album in Brooklyn. Their latest work No World / FPLL was created in March 2015 at Theater Vidy Lausanne (Switzerland) and will be presented in July 2015 for the Festival of Avignon.
