Analogy Trilogy

Developed by Bill T. Jones with Associate Artistic Director Janet Wong, Analogy Trilogy is based on oral histories and inspired by W.G. Sebald’s award-winning novel The Emigrants. Part One, Analogy/Dora: Tramontane, recounts the story of Dora Amelan, a French Jewish nurse, social worker, and World War II survivor. Part Two Analogy/Lance: Pretty aka The Escape Artist is a tragic yet humorous journey through the sex trade and drug use of the 1980s as seen through the life of Lance Theodore Briggs and his struggle through addiction and recovery.  The final part of the trilogy,Ambros: The Emigrant, tells the story of a German valet and his glamorous travels with his charge Cosmos through Europe and the Middle East on the eve of WWI and then his life after Cosmo’s descent into madness and death. Composer Nick Hallett’s original score accompanies the stunning dancers of the Bill T. Jones/Arnie Zane Company.

Analogy/Dora: Tramontane is commissioned by Peak Performances at Montclair State University; Co-Commissioned by Dancers’ Workshop and Yerba Buena Center for the Arts.

Analogy/Lance: Pretty aka The Escape Artist is commissioned by the American Dance Festival, Dancers’ Workshop and the Executive Director’s Fund at The Joyce Theater Foundation.

Analogy/Ambros: The Emigrant is commissioned by ADF with support from the Doris Duke/SHS Foundations Award for New Works and the Reinhart Fund.

Analogy/Lance: Pretty aka the Escape Artist contains adult subject matter and language.
