Jennifer Nugent and Paul Matteson, both Bessie Award-winning performers and former Bill T. Jones/Arnie Zane Company dancers (2008-2014), are known for their phenomenal partnering work, creating duets that are intense, forceful, and passionate. Their latest duet, another piece apart, reflects on a history of a fractured togetherness and blurred boundaries. The multi-focused movement fluxes in and out of knotted touch.
Oct 11 Stay Late Conversation with moderator Lauren Baskt. Lauren Bakst is an artist and writer living in New York. She works in, with, and through dance, approaching the situation of performance as an object of inquiry. Lauren’s work More Problems With Form will be presented at The Chocolate Factory in March 2019. From 2015-2018, Lauren served as Managing Editor of the Movement Research Performance Journal. She currently teaches in the School of Dance at University of the Arts.
Oct 13, 2-5pm Partnering Workshop with Jennifer Nugent and Paul Matteson, $25. A toolbox of methods for partnering. We explore negative space, interdependent support, responses to touch, and various ways of harnessing momentum. By a quick bridging of improvisation into set work—followed by imaginative reconstruction steps—we develop dances that embolden personal voice within kinetic collaboration.
