Barnard/Columbia Dances
FEATURING WORK BY LUCINDA CHILDS, SHANNON GILLEN, OKWUI OKPOKWASILI & CLAUDIA SCHREIER
Barnard/Columbia Dances at New York Live arts features three world premieres and the geometrically virtuosic Concerto by postmodern icon Lucinda Childs. The premieres are by Shannon Gillen, founder of Vim Vigor Dance Company, whose high octane choreography fluidly moves between the physical power of risk and the human experience; Okwui Okpokwasili, whose work mines issues of gender, class and politics, in collaboration with text and across disciplines; and Claudia Schreier, whose distinctive choreographic voice fuses neoclassical technique with a contemporary vocabulary. Produced by the Barnard College Department of Dance and performed by Barnard and Columbia University students, this concert celebrates its thirteenth season of dance in the historic West 19th Street venue.
