Sean Dorsey’s timely and urgent commentary on masculinity places a trans and queer frame onto intersectional questions of embodiment, violence, Black queer love, whiteness, shame and posturing in BOYS IN TROUBLE. Recognized as the nation’s first acclaimed transgender modern dance choreographer, Sean Dorsey’s ability to stay in conversation with toxic masculinity, the trans revolution, Black Lives Matter, #metoo, and increasing attacks on trans bodies and civil liberties manifest in his latest work.

BOYS IN TROUBLE premiered at San Francisco’s Z Space in April 2018 and is now on a 3-year 20-city international tour with support from the National Endowment for the Arts, National Dance Project and National Performance Network. This work was commissioned by Bates Dance Festival, Dance Place, 7 Stages, Maui Arts & Cultural Center, Queer Cultural Center and Highways Performance Space.
