Milka Djordjevich

CORPS, a procession

June 18 @ 5pm
Free with RSVP

New York Live Arts’ Live Feed creative residency and commissioning program presents CORPS, a procession, in-process rendering of choreographer Milka Djordjevich’s soon-to-premiere project, CORPS.
CORPS explores how labor and gender are addressed under the lens of regimented movement. The work is a continuation of Djordjevich’s ongoing questioning of dance practices preoccupied with producing neutrality and anonymity. CORPS aims to unravel and disorient the militaristic conditioning of groups keeping together in time. The work reveals similarities across traditional, militaristic, ritualistic, athletic, and folk movement forms.

The performance will feature six performers including: Martita Abril, Josie Bettman, Dorothy Dubrule, Ayano Elson and Tara Sheena.

The procession begins at New York Live Arts, 219 West 19th Street NYC at 5 pm, heading outside to then rove up and down West 19th Street between 7th and 8th Avenues. Live Arts Gallery Cafe and Bar will be open prior to the performance for to-go orders from 3-6 pm.

Djordjevich’s Live Feed residency is preceded by a two-week creative residency (June 1-12) at Baryshnikov Arts Center (BAC) to develop CORPS. For more information about BAC Residencies, please visit bacnyc.org.

New York Live Arts’ Live Feed commission and residency program is a laboratory for the development of new work and offers a sneak peek into each artist’s process and ideas before their creations hit the stage.
