TAKE Dance will present two premieres this season – Takehiro Ueyama’s world premiere, Flight and Jill Echo’s New York City premiere, Left there by the Tide. Flight is inspired by a great flock of starlings playing in the sky. Like everything in nature, this wild flock is beautiful, dangerous, honest, and unpredictable. The dance features imagery of breathtaking unison flights and banking turns that sculpt the air in seamless elegant patterns. Left there by the Tide features seven short vignettes of different emotional moments in relationships, beginning and ending in a sea of waves. The title is a line by Edna St. Vincent Millay from her poem Ebb, which also served as inspiration for the work.
This season will also include the stunning theatrical ensemble work, Footsteps in the Snow and Sakura Sakura (“cherry blossoms” in Japanese), a dance for seven women that is ritualistic, beautiful and intense.
