Raja Feather Kelly : HYSTERIA
This event is over
HYSTERIA, a performance and installation piece being created in the Ford Foundation Live Gallery on December 9 and 10, and premiering virtually on December 11 and 12, continues Raja Feather Kelly’s study of pop culture and its displacement of queer Black subjectivity. Picking up where his 2018 performance, UGLY, left off, Kelly resituates himself as a glamourous, extraterrestrial entity—both alien to the world and wholly consuming its pop cultural byproducts. HYSTERIA marks the collapse of fiction into fact, tracking the subsequent inner turmoil, confusion, and mania that Kelly sets out to exorcise.
If you happen to be in the neighborhood tomorrow Dec 10 or Friday Dec 11 @ 7pm EST, pass by Live Arts to see Raja activating the installation from behind our street facing building windows.
HYSTERIA is commissioned by and originally presented by New York Live Arts as part of the Randjelović/Stryker Resident Commissioned Artist Program. As one of Live Arts’ signature programs for artist development, vital support program is also provided by The Andrew W. Mellon Foundation.
