JACK & with The Cotillion
The Cotillion is a multi-channel audio and video installation with live performance that explores ceremonial entrances into society. From re-entry into society after prison, to ‘entering society’ in debutante balls, to rituals of welcoming ancestors back to communities, this new work by Kaneza Schaal is as a companion piece to her production JACK &.
JACK & is a performance that considers the metric-less damages of being in prison; not the time one has served but the measure of one’s dreaming that is given to the state. Directed by Kaneza Schaal and starring Cornell Alston, the performance explores markers of transition and transformation, and the liminal ritual spaces that bridge worlds.
JACK & has its New York premiere at BAM Next Wave Festival in October 2018 and will be remounted at New York Live Arts in April 2019.
The Live Feed program is supported in part by by Rockefeller Brothers Fund, National Endowment for the Arts, New York City Department of Cultural Affairs, and the Partners for New Performance.
