Colleen Thomas has been an emerging artist in the downtown New York dance scene for the past 5 years. She has presented her work in New York at Joyce Soho, Danspace Project at St. Mark's Church, Dance New Amsterdam, The Kumble Arts Center in Brooklyn, and Dance Theater Workshop through Gotham Arts. Her work has also recently appeared at The Boston Conservatory, Smith College, University of Wisconsin in Milwaukee, in Hong Kong, and in Minneapolis where her work Catching Her Tears (44° N, 93° W) for the Zenon Dance Company premiered to wide acclaim. Originally from Miami (where she worked with the Miami Ballet), Thomas began her professional career in New York City 23 years ago. She has had the pleasure of dancing with Nina Wiener Dance Company, Donald Byrd/The Group, Bebe Miller Dance Company, and the Bill T. Jones/Arnie Zane Dance Company among others. In 1997 she began working with Bill Young with whom her work has evolved into a collaborative partnership. Their work has bee seen throughout the United States, Europe, Asia and South America. Now branching out to create and perform her own work, she has formed ColleenThomasDance to illuminate her own vision of contemporary dance.
