Solo, Deluxe Version, One of Sixty Five Thousand Gestures
Pre-Show Talk Mar 7 at 6:30pm with Kyle Bukhari
Post-Show Talk Mar 9 with Yasuko Yokoshi
Jodi Melnick is an internationally acclaimed performer and two-time New York Dance and Performance “Bessie” Award-winner whose work is meticulously designed, flooded with imagery, and transformed by the phenomenon of dancing. Her newest work, Solo, Deluxe Version, features performances by Melnick, Jon Kinzel, Hristoula Harakas and Stuart Shugg; original music by Steven Reker and his band, People GetReady (Luke Fasano, James Rickman and Jen Goma); and lighting by Joe Levasseur. The evening also includes the world premiere of One of Sixty Five Thousand Gestures, a solo choreographed collaboratively with Trisha Brown – a creative conversation that explores their mutual interest in the crafting of movement, the slippage from casual to formal and back again. One of Sixty Five Thousand Gestures features an original score by Hahn Rowe.
Solo, Deluxe Version is commissioned by New York Live Arts’ “DTW Commissioning Fund” and is made possible, in part, by the National Endowment for the Arts and the Jerome Foundation.
Solo, Deluxe Version is funded, in part, by The Jerome Robbins New Essential Works Grant (2010-2011).
