Martita Abril

 

Martita Abril is a performer, choreographer, curator, and teaching artist from the border city of Tijuana, México. Her work considers abstract elements of physical and cultural boundaries. She’s been a mentee and mentor for the NYFA Immigrant Artist Program since 2013 and a volunteer interpreter aiding families seeking asylum at Dilley, Texas detention facility. Martita has collaborated with Lux Boreal, Allyson Green, Yanira Castro Acanarytorsi, Rebecca Davis, Daria Fain & Robert Kocik, Kat Galasso, Mina Nishimura, Cori Olinghouse, Yaquez, Will Rawls/ Andros Zins-Browne and she was a performer in Simone Forti’s Dance Constructions and the Handles exhibition by Haegue Yang at the Museum of Modern Art. She is currently working with Yoshiko Chuma, as well as Okwui Okpokwasili and is the Coordinator for Movement Research at the Judson Memorial Church. To visit Martita Abril’s website.
