Liony Garcia
Liony Garcia is a dancer and choreographer from Miami. FL and is currently based in Brooklyn, NY. He holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts from New World School of the Arts. As a dancer he’s worked with BodyTraffic, Brigid Baker’s WholeProject, Bistoury Physical Theater and is a founding member of Rosie Herrera Dance Theater.
His solo performances have been presented at Mana Contemporary, International Noise Music Conference, Bas Fisher Invitational, Edge Zone’s INDEX’21 and 305 HAV INTERNATIONAL IMPROV FEST ’21’.
Garcia’s choreographic works have been commissioned by The Aspen Institute, The Dranoff 2 Piano Foundation, Pioneer Winter Collective and Toronto’s Outreach and Exchange Strategy. He is a two-time recipient of the Dance Miami Choreographers’ Program and is a resident artist at Miami Light Project and Young Arts. His interest in visual art has led him to collaborate with artists Blaze Gonzalez, Hannah Gaengler, True Harrigan, Dion Rubi and Ana Teresa Fernandez.
His project “Corporeal Decorum” is a National Performance Network Creation & Development Fund Project co-commissioned by Miami Light Project, The Ringling, and NPN. The piece premiered at Miami Theater Center in 2022 and has since been performed at The Ringling Museum, Miami’s Design Preservation League, New World Symphony’s Soundscape Park and most recently at Movement Research at The Judson Church.
