Lydia Johnson Dance
For more than 25 years, Lydia Johnson Dance has presented work created by Lydia Johnson, drawing from both ballet and contemporary traditions with a focus on musicality, structure, and the relationships between dancers. The company has appeared at venues including New York Live Arts, The Ailey Citigroup Theater, and the 92nd Street Y, as well as festivals such as Jacob’s Pillow Dance Festival. Johnson’s choreography is known for its emotional depth and its ability to evoke a sense of shared human experience through abstract form.
Critically acclaimed for their individuality and distinct physicality, the company’s dancers are known for the personal interpretations each brings to Johnson’s choreography. Over the years, guest artists from New York City Ballet, American Ballet Theatre, Mark Morris Dance Group, Paul Taylor Dance Company, and Lar Lubovitch Dance Company have performed alongside them.
