A Conversation with the Creative Team Of Deep Blue Sea
Join Wingspace and New York Live Arts, for a conversation with Bill T. Jones, Elizabeth Diller, Peter Nigrini, Robert Wierzel, and Nick Hallett, the creative team behind “Deep Blue Sea”, a massive new work commissioned by the Park Avenue Armory that was recently canceled due to the Covid-19 pandemic. Deep Blue Sea revolves around the interplay of single and group identities. Jones conceived this highly personal work in pursuit of the elusive “we” during these fractious times through a cast of 100 dancers/community members, and a deconstructed text from Martin Luther King Jr.’s “I Have a Dream” and Herman Melville’s Moby Dick.
Award-winning choreographer, director, and artist Bill T. Jones will be joined by the renowned architect by Elizabeth Diller (Diller Scofidio + Renfro), Tony-Award winning projection designer Peter Nigrini, lighting designer Robert Wierzel, and composer Nick Hallett to talk about their process of creating the massive piece. The discussion will be followed by a question and answer session.
