Beauty lies in insubordination. Dorothée Munyaneza brings together 5 Black, African and Afro-descendant artists to weave intimate journeys together, from Bristol to Seville and Port-au-Prince to Marseille, creating a symphony of voices. Each of these voices and bodies tells a unique story of commitment and strength.

With the support of Dance reflections by Van Cleef & Arpels

Thanks to Villa Albertine / Ambassade de France aux États-Unis.

Profoundly attached to the world of dance since its origins, the High Jewelry Maison strengthens its commitment with Dance Reflections by Van Cleef & Arpels. Guided by the values of creation, transmission and education, this initiative aims to support artists and institutions in presenting choreographic heritage, while also promoting new productions. Since its launch in 2020, it has promoted numerous dance companies for their creations as well as the presentation of multiple performances around the world. The program is complemented each year by major events, including the Dance Reflections by Van Cleef & Arpels Festival, whose first edition took place in London in March 2022. This support further extends to awareness-raising actions focused on dance culture for the broadest possible audience, professionals and amateurs alike.

“Our stories differ.

Here, there and elsewhere.

We have lived through earthquakes, blood, crises, joy, darkness, laughter and tears.

We sail in the midst of multiple languages and daily dances.

Between anger and gentleness.

We live scattered across lands and continents.

I want to sit at the heart of this feminine nucleus, intertwining horizons.

These past years, I have met artists who are free, powerful, engaged, bold, hybrid, who share the stories of long-oppressed peoples, scorned peoples, beaten peoples, segregated peoples, long-considered insignificant. Rich encounters with people who have so much to tell, to share.

Their stories, songs, dance, tears and laughter are like roots where memories irrigate our stories.

We gather and share intimate and collective memories.

An intimate gathering where our stories meet.

An intimate gathering to summon history.

Those memories we bear as indelible and fertile marks. Those we shape every day.

Ancestral and contemporary story-filled memories.

We are celebrations.

Resilience, our weapon of resistance, accompanies us and is our strength, our beauty. I

want to celebrate this strength, to share it.
