In celebration of 40 years dedicated to riveting choreographic exploration, O’Connor presents a milestone program that pairs his newest ensemble creation The Lace with a reconstruction of his first dance, Construct-A-Guy (1984). Separated by four decades, O’Connor’s dance creations trace the evolution of an artist whose singular voice has shaped contemporary dance worldwide. Originally made for and performed by himself, Construct-A-Guy emerged from O’Connor’s early artistic naiveté and established the distinctive craft methods—shifts in rhythm and energy, spatial fragmentation, a collagist sensibility, and fluid movement between multiple meanings and personas—that still define his work today.
